Ying-chi Lee was born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1942. He was the oldest son and second of five children to Junn Lee and Bin Hsu He attended National Chung Hsiang University in Taiwan, studying chemistry.
He met his future wife, Chhai Chui-Mei in Tamsui, Taiwan and married in 1971. He came to United States in 1967 and earned a Master’s Degree in Chemistry at Kansas State College of Pittsburg, now known as Pittsburg State University. He started his career as Research Chemist for American Critical Care near Chicago, IL and had two sons, Jeffrey and Daniel.
His company was purchased by DuPont in 1989 and he relocated to Delaware where he continued to work in the pharmaceutical field with DuPont and then later, DuPont-Merck. After an early retirement, he worked for Boehringer Ingelheim in Richmond, Virginia, making weekly commutes so his family could stay in Delaware and still be as an active participant in the Chinese-American community.
Ying-Chi’s passions included ballroom dancing, line dancing, photography, and traveling. Ying-chi took pride in organizing large group trips for his friends all over the US and the world. In particular, he enjoyed taking cruises and over his multiple trips, sailed around the world. Ying-chi Lee passed away on February 5th, 2020 after a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and three grandchildren.
