Born in Kennett Square, PA, Wayne started working selling newspapers and horse racing forms at age 14 at Delaware Park. He later joined and served in The United States Armed Forces in October 1959 and received an honorable discharge in February 1962. He became a foreman at WSMW where he worked until retiring.  Wayne married the love of his life, Mary Ann Sullivan on November 24, 1962 and she preceded him in death in March 2016. He is survived by his children, Bernadine Lopez (Mike), Toni Toomey-Weymouth, Wayne Toomey Jr. (Ken), Michele Auelua (Sai); his sister Barbara D’Onofrio and  Marlene Horisk (Jim); grandchildren Christopher, Jennifer, Michelle, Sakaria, Kalei, Sophie, Misha; and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and George Toomey, his siblings George, Edward, Robert and Sandra. He earned the nick name “Spanky” at a young age and kept that throughout his life.

He and Penny loved the beach and spent most weekends there until finally relocating to Dewey Beach after retirement where the two of them originally met.  Wayne spent most of his time on his boat fishing, crabbing and just relaxing on the water. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and enjoying life to the fullest.

Remembering all the fun times we had at the beach our parents were best friends and now they are together again where there’s no pain and lots of crabs and beer! You will always cherish your memories because no one can ever take them away. They’re all at peace.
