    Janette Holdeman Hernandez writes,
The last of a great family left us with the passing of out beloved Turney and it is with deep sorrow that I write this. The Hernandez boys left a legacy surpassed by none in the fields of horticulture and medicine not only in Louisiana but worldwide. What an accomplishment for a family borned of meager means that learned to speak English only after starting to school. One has to think the drive to achieve in this world was instilled by Mom and Pop Hernandez and I am happy to say that those same drives and goals in life has been passed to the younger generations. We surviving Hernandezs’ have a lot to be proud of as we remember our loved ones that are gone but not forgotten. May you rest in peace Turney. As a post script I will add that it was through my work with LSU and association with Turney that I met my true love Travis.

Uncle Turney was always a delight. Quick with smile and conversation - always interesting. Due to distance, the Tate family didn't get together too often, but when it did it was always exciting and happy. Those memories always included Turney and Sadie abd kids (we called them exotic because they lived so far away - but not in our hearts.)

Turney was a very dear friend. His smile and gentle demeanor were very impressive and will not disappear from my mind as long as I live. He lent me his autobiography, which I read with great interest. This was a great man who has been around and accomplished so much in life. I shared with him ,more than once, my admiration and shared with him some of my stories from my travels for the DuPont company which were similar to his. He always wanted me to write my memoirs, like he did. I will start doing that soon. May God bless his soul. I will cherish his memory.

Turney lived a long and productive life surrounded by his brothers and sisters and a beautiful family. He will be remembered by me as a person who cherished family. At the reunions he and Ann Marie put on, the main idea was to get the family to get together and renew their acquaintances, share, and meet new arrivals into the family. 'Keep it simple and make it fun.' My condolences to the immediate family all of whom I love. I loved Turney Hernandez and I will miss him. Cary A. Hernandez

Turney was a very key influence for my joining the DuPont family in 1963. His honesty, realism, and vision with "can-do-attitude" were so encouraging. Turney- a tremendous mentor, listener, teacher and career long friend.
