Thomas Jay Meaney, age 87, of Vero Beach, Florida and Greenville, Delaware, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at his home in Delaware.
Tom was born in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, son of the late Thomas and Helen V. Murray Meaney. He grew up in Lansdowne, PA and graduated from Villanova University in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He received his Master’s Degree in Engineering from Drexel University. Tom also taught at Villanova University.
Tom was a member of the Wilmington Country Club in Greenville, Delaware and the Moorings Country Club in Vero Beach, Florida. Tom was a competitive basketball player in college at Villanova, he enjoyed playing tennis and working around his home and garden. He especially enjoyed vacations with his family in Avalon and Ocean City, NJ.
He was an engineer working in the defense industry his entire career. He was fortunate to enjoy so many personal and business relationships throughout his industry. He retired as CEO of Mikros Systems in 2021 where he also served as president and director since 1986. Tom was dedicated to serving the US Navy, most notably with the Aegis Systems Ship Building Program, which he was instrumental in placing these systems on naval ships. Prior to Mikros, he held senior positions at Robotic Vision Systems, Inc., and Norden Systems, a division of United Technologies Corporation. As a result, of these and other professional experiences, Tom possessed a particular knowledge and experience in management, manufacturing, the defense industry, and Board practices.
In addition to his parents, Tom is predeceased by his son, who passed in 1959, Thomas Jay Jr.. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maureen Barry Meaney, his sons; Michael (Valerie), John (Susan), his daughters; Julie (Leonard), Maura, Liz (Mark), his 15 grandchildren; Daniel, Noel, Bridget, Tommy, Matthew, Brian, Katy, Lauren, Connor, Meghan, Ryan, Allie, TJ, Emma and Teddy, and his 2 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s on The Brandywine Catholic Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, Delaware 19807. A visitation will be held prior at the church from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will be held privately at the Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
