Thomas Bernard Lawlor, age 90, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 in Wilmington Hospital. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of Lyndon Lawlor and Jule Coyle. He graduated from Yeadon High School in 1945, and earned a degree in business accounting from Temple University in 1949. In tenth grade he met his lifetime sweetheart, Barbara. They got married in April, 1950, and stayed very happily married for almost 68 years. They shared their love of travel, camping and history with their 7 children. Tom enjoyed family, photography, ten pin bowling, Delaware Symphony Orchestra, and many types of music and plays at the Playhouse and the Grand Opera House. He was an accomplished lawn bowler with DuPont Country Club. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and traveled all through the United States and over 53 foreign countries.
He was pre-deceased by his wife by only 17 days. He was also pre-deceased by his parents and a sister, Jeanne Frazier Groom, of Saginaw, MI. He is survived by his 7 children, Kathy Simpson (Dave) of Newark, DE, Thomas B. Jr. (Tim) (June) of Roanoke, VA, Anne McKenica (John), of Plantation, FL, Dan (Patti) of Houston, TX, Mark (Mary Lou) of Wilmington, DE, Nora Copes of St. David, PA, and Bill of Wilmington, DE. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, a brother, Lyn (Bob) Lawlor of Basking Ridge, NJ, a brother in law, Bill Payne (Ilse), of Lewes, DE and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Friday evening, March 16, from 5 PM to 7 PM at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 17 at 10 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington. Burial will be held at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grand Opera House, or to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
