Susan Hoopes Ligi

Susan Hoopes Ligi, age 80, of Wilmington, DE., passed away on Saturday, February 26th, 2022, at Christiana Hospital, due to a brief illness.

Susan was born in West Chester, PA., later moving to Wilmington, DE. She was the daughter of the late Clara Thomas Montgomery and John E. Hoopes. She attended and graduated from A.I DuPont High School and worked as an executive assistant at First Data until she retired at the age of 65.

In 1964, she married Dominic J. Ligi (Nicky), they enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Susan enjoyed spending her time with family and friends. She especially loved her daily phone calls and weekly outings with her best friend Cathie Wilkerson. She loved plants and animals. She loved the outdoors and gardening.  She had a very green thumb always had the most beautiful plants and flowers. Susan loved taking day trips to Lancaster and going to Shady Maple buffet. When living in The Villages, Florida, she loved playing pickleball, with husband and friends as well as shopping and going on day trips. You would never find a more devoted and loving wife, mother, Nana or friend than Susan. Every birthday or holiday Susan’s friends and family could look forward to receiving a card, often filled with sequins and personalized with her perfect handwriting. Susan spoke to everyone like they were a dear friend and brightened every room she entered with her sunny disposition. Gifts from Susan were always wrapped with care and topped with handmade bows adorned with flowers that she put together herself in her craft room. She loved making everything extra special for those she loved. You could see the joy and pride in her face when she displayed her latest painting or art project. Susan put all of her heart into things she created for her loved ones. Susan was someone to celebrate the good times, as well as a shoulder to cry on when you needed support and cheering up. She was the most genuine, kind person who would do anything for anyone.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, Nick Ligi, are her daughters; Kim Danz (Michael). Kris Jamison (John) grandchildren, Michelle and Matthew Danz, and Kylie Jamison and her sister Janet Blanchard, MD.

So sad to hear the news from my mom. U were a very sweet lady, and i know u were my moms "filippone" her best friend. U have many good friends in life, but only one best friend. My best friend died 15 yrs ago and several times a week i still think to call him to tell him something. Ill always remember how much fun we had when Ma dragged u along for a golden corral half way meetup. We always laughed so much during those visits, its weird i thought we would still be able to all meet up, i thought we had more time, and i still cant believe ur gone. Were trying to be there for mom, shes really crushed by this loss, but sometimes there only so much u can say. So ill miss ya Miss Susan, and i know ma will everyday, but im sure she will still talk to u up there. So send comfort if u can, i know where ur at there's no suffering Rest in peace.

Aunt Sue is my mother's sister-in-law and my god mother. Although my family moved away from Delaware when I was young, I have fond memories of Christmas visits and summer vacations with my cousins. Aunt Sue would go out of her way to make sure her home was welcoming to us. She seemed to enjoy updating her home over the years. It looked like it could be featured in a house magazine at times. Aunt Sue always took the time to write a thoughtful card with a gift. I thought she wrote those cards with a ruler, as her handwriting was so perfect. Also, as someone who has an almost unhealthy addiction to cars (now motorcycles, too), I remember her having her share of cool ones. Rest In Peace Aunt Sue.

I am still in shock and can't believe you're gone. This candle is lit in your honor, just like it, you brightened up everywhere you went. In the 30 years you and my mom have been best friends, I got to know and love you as she did. I can't picture you without your warm smile. Everytime I talked to my mom when you were either on your way to or from one of your adventures, you two reminded me of high school girls. I loved hearing you and her laughing about your day or one of your many inside jokes, the kind that only best friends share. Everytime I think of that it makes me smile. I am so sorry for your family's loss. We are taking care of my mom and I'm sure you're keeping your eyes on everyone and smiling down on us. I miss you already❤

Dear Nick (my cousin, Vinnie!), Kim, Kris and family, We were devastated and heartbroken to hear of Susan’s passing. She and Nick were the first friends we made in The Villages. We met at a Pickleball 101 class in 2009 and soon became best friends. We did everything together from playing pickleball several times a week, to taking day trips, finding good restaurants, taking art classes, going to garage sales, celebrating our birthdays together and just enjoying our friendship! Our house is filled with special handmade gifts from Susan! We will always cherish the great memories we made and will greatly miss our dear friend. She and Nick will have a special place in our hearts forever. As sad as we were when they sold their house in Florida last spring to return to Delaware for good, we are happy to know that Susan spent her last few months close to her family and friends there. We pray for peace and comfort for Nick and all who loved her, as we did, and thank God for blessing us with such a special friend. Beverly and Clif Kittle

I don’t know what made me google Susan at 4am. My deepest condolences to everyone who loved her, as I did. We met at First Data back when it was MAC and she was one of the best things about working there. She was a good friend to me and I regret that we lost touch. Just a few days ago I was telling my dad how she had to have her soup scalding hot. At lunch, she would reheat it at least twice because it wasn’t hot anymore. I can actually see it it to this day. Her adorable face when I’d tease her, “I like my soup HOT.” I have so many memories of her. I even just came across a Tigger shirt she gave me for my birthday one year. It was a favorite of mine and it always brings a smile to my face. I’m so glad she was in my life.
