Silvio J. Ferrari, age 61, died suddenly on December 8, 2022.
Silvio was the son of the late Silvio F. Ferrari and Joan Ferrari. Born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Oaklyn, NJ where he graduated from Collingswood High School in 1979.
Silvio joined Haddonfield Lumber sweeping the drywall bays at 17. He worked in the yard and loaded trucks by forklift. Quickly, he was promoted to assist with shipping and shortly after was promoted to shipper. Silvio then spent years building customer relationships as a Salesman until he was given his first yard in Toughkenamon, PA where he became the General Manager. When Strober Building Supply acquired Haddonfield Lumber, Silvio gained the Eagle, PA and Newark, DE locations. He was promoted to Vice President and decided to plant his roots in Wilmington, DE where he lived for 30 years. He managed yards in Lewes and Newark working for ProBuild until 2015 when he founded and served as President of Freedom Materials.
Silvio looked forward to spending his semi-retirement years in Florida where he enjoyed taking his boat out on the water, entertaining friends and family with his girlfriend Lori, and finding a breakfast place that made him as happy as a Jersey diner.
He was a man of integrity and loved by all who knew him. His children adored him and he felt the same; never missing an opportunity to talk about them. He enjoyed entertaining at home, watching football, weekly breakfast with Giavanna, and house projects that he enjoyed completing with Silvio Jr.
Silvio was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and die hard Eagles fan. In 2018, Silvio fulfilled his lifelong dream and attended the Super Bowl to witness the Eagles beat the Patriots. Go Birds! In the fall of 2022, Silvio and Lori shared the experience of traveling to Italy, completing another of his lifelong dreams.
Silvio was preceded in death by his father Silvio Ferrari, sister Becky Ferrari, and dog Tasha. He is survived by his children Giavanna Ferrari and Silvio Ferrari, Jr., dog Maise, his girlfriend Lori Trainer, her children Kendall Trainer and Gray Trainer, his sister Joan (John) Schissler, his brother Chris (Eileen) Ferrari, his nieces and nephews, and cousin Anthony (Holly) Ferrari.
Friends and family are invited for viewing hours at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE on Sunday, December 18th from 10:00am to 12pm with service from 12:00 to 12:30pm. Silvio would want everyone to be comfortable and live life the way he did. Please honor him by wearing an Eagles shirt or Eagles green to the service.
Silvio enjoyed socializing with friends and family and watching the Eagles game at Kid Shelleen’s. We will be celebrating his life in full Frank Sinatra fashion and do it his way by cheering on the Birds at 1:00pm as they take on the Bears. Ironically, the Eagles vs Bears game was the first football game he attended with his father. Private burial will be held on Monday.
