Shawn Snyder, 65 of Hockessin passed away at home surrounded by her family and close friend Debbie Coutu on Sunday, December 13, 2020.
Shawn grew up in the north Wilmington area. As a child, Shawn loved outings with her father Tom, going to the hardware store or other errands. Shawn’s professional career varied, but she was always in the customer relations or sales fields wherever she worked. Three years ago, she semi-retired, but worked part time at Continental Jewelers.
She was loved and respected by all of those she met professionally and socially. She was always friendly, inspiring, and engaging, but never desired to be the center of attention. A former co-worker described her as the epitome of class, grace, kindness, and beauty. Shawn was a beautiful person inside and out, and cared deeply for her friends, family, and pets. Shawn had volunteered for Read Aloud Delaware several years ago, the Police Athletic League of Delaware, and most recently the Delaware Humane Association.
Shawn enjoyed her frequent vacations to Key West and Phillies Spring Training in Clearwater Florida with her husband Stuart, as well as her exercise classes at the Hockessin Athletic Club. Her happy times were cut short with her cancer diagnosis last July. Shawn fought the disease, but it was too much to endure.
Shawn is survived by her husband of 33 years Stuart, daughter Heather Anson and her husband Ryan in Oklahoma, grandchildren Jake and Tyler Anson, her son Ryan Snyder and his wife Jamie of Wilmington, her mother Ann Baker of Bellefonte, brother Tom Baker (Nancy) of Pennsylvania, and brother Ted Baker of Wilmington. Shawn was pre-deceased by her father Tom Baker, and brother Rob Baker.
We wish to thank the care team at Penn Medicine Abramson Cancer Center, and the kind and professional staff of Dr. Corey Langer. We’d also like to thank the kind staff of Delaware Hospice for their efforts to comfort Shawn in her final weeks at home. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Shawn’s name to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE, 19801 or online at Delawarehumane.org.
