Condolences to the Chavis Family, I met schoolboy in 87/88 when he first came to town at Jazzco the Club.. I was playing and he introduced himself saying he just came down from Jersey and myself from NYC hit it off. We became friends and often collaborated on the newest music that we were playing. He introduced me to playing by bpm which is a lot easier than playing be ear which was how we did it back. We didn't see much of each other as we got older but had mad love for each when we seen each other. Bro you will be missed but not forgotten. SIP Bro

Shawn, affectionately known by his many US Navy comrades, friends and brotherhood as "Schoolboy or "School", we all where and are family. We always shared laughter and smiles when "Philly Smooth", was around. He had DJ at least three of my personal parties and too many other get togethers, parties, retirement ceremonies and weddings to remember. School and I met at Michelle Obama's speaking at the Prime center in downtown Jacksonville. One early morning and he said Juice did you know you have on 2 different shoes" I looked down and said yea man that a new style " School said yea right,,,I never heard Michelle speak"I left LOL. Me and my brothers in arms from the Jacksonville area, (NAS. Cecil Field) will forever remember School boy. This is a total " Shock" to our community! Please pass to his loving Chavis family my Deepest condolences and " Fair Winds and Following Seas, We miss you "SCHOOLBOY" a HOUSEHOLD NAME. "JUICE" John Cornish

Jeffrey " Bodine" Kelly lit a candle and writes,
Shawn "School Boy" Chavis, my Brother! You will surely be missed, my heart hurts as I write this. I met School in Jacksonville, FL back in the early 80's (~84), he moved in with me when he first got out of the U.S. Navy; I was from Trenton and he was from Willingboro, we both loved making music (mixed tapes). He played numerous events for me and my family ('84-2013). As I continued my career in the Navy, I watched School grow through his journey and passion (Music). His talents took him from making tapes, playing house parties, barbeques, Clubs, (NAS Cecil, Jazzco, The Apple, Jim's Place), local radio station (98.7 The Beat) to Mix Cloud (where he was once ranked top 100, globally); he IS a true Legend in Jacksonville. What I loved about my Brother, more than his DJ skills, his dedication and commitment. He was a hard worker from the day he left the Navy, he started bulk delivering newspapers for Florida Times Union to becoming a renowned certified Painter for U.S. Navy's Aviation Support Equipment, Ships, Avionic components, and more. My Brother was not scared of work, he had a beautiful heart, mild manner, full of fun and laughter. There are many stories I can share but this is not the place, LOL! On behalf of the Kelly family, our prayers and condolences to the Chavis Family. May GOD, give you continued strength during this time. I Love you School, you ARE missed!! Bo'

Vannette (Vee) Terrell lit a candle and writes,
I too met Shawn at Jazzco the Club. A young lady was so drunk, she bumpped into him so hard, that she almost knocked him down. He noticed me watching, we both shrugged our shoulders and laughed. Shawn motioned to the dance floor, I nodded in agreement and went to the dance floor. It was laughter from then on. Even, after being disconnected for two decades. Shawn reached out to me via Facebook messenger and it was as if we had never been apart. He nicked named me "Red" when we first met. When we reconnected, he told me he could no longer call me that and changed my nick name to "Vee". We laughed up to the day he left Jacksonville to return home. My heart is heavy as too yours. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. My prayers are with you. Warm Regards: Vannette Terrell Known to Shawn as Vee
