Robert M. Pyle

Robert M. Pyle, age 80, of Hockessin, DE, formerly of Kennett Square, PA, died on Monday April 14, 2025, at the Friends Home in Kennett Square.

Robert attended Wilmington Friends School in Wilmington, DE for his elementary years, before graduating from St. Andrews School in Middletown, DE.  He graduated from Hobart College in Geneva, NY.  He worked as a professional travel agent and was a master scuba diver and underwater photographer.

Robert is survived by his wife Frances (Yeomans) Pyle, and her son Hugh Yeomans. Robert is survived by his brother Stephen J. Pyle III, Steve’s children Kimbery, Amy, and Jennifer, Rob’s sister Marcia P. Welch and her children, Wini, Lorraine, Suzie, Lucinda, and Beth, Rob’s sister Suzanne P. Wyman, his sister Elynor P. Taylor and her children Lauren and Catherine, and his sister Carol J. Pyle. He is also survived by Natalie, Robbie, Stephanie, Laird, and Cynthia, the children of his late sister Elizabeth Pyle.  He is additionally survived by various cousins, and countless lifelong, loyal friends across the world.

Funeral Services

A Friends meeting for worship will be held on Tuesday April 22, 2025, at 1:30PM at Hockessin Friends Meeting, 1501 Old Wilmington Rd, Hockessin, DE 19707, preceded by a private burial. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to Hockessin Friends Meeting or a charity of your choice that you think Rob would appreciate.

    We'll miss Rob deeply. He was charming, always capable of lighting up the room with his buoyancy, humor, and knowledge of geography and history. And, yes, he could be a bit of a rascal, a trait that made him more appealing and endearing to those of us fortunate enough to have known him.     We will miss Rob. We have known him since our twenties, through his deep Sea fishing , travels, antiques. His life changed when he met Francie. They were both wonderful and fun. We spent time with them in Chatham Pa to our present house, Also visiting in in Maryland. We will miss Rob. The session after church was uplifting when we heard stories from so many people. We all need to keep in touch with Francie. She has a number of tough weeks ahead if her with operation on top of losing Rob. I loved seeing everyone yesterday and hearing about Rob -his engaging spirit and enthusiasm.
