Robert D. Wesselman, age 81, of Newark, died on Wednesday, August 7, 2019.
Born and raised in Catonsville, Maryland, Bob was the second of three children, born to William and Selma Wesselman. He was fun loving, remembered every joke he ever heard and charmed everyone he met.
He married Nancy Lee Grey in 1957 and had two children. They moved from Catonsville to Salisbury, Maryland where they added a third child, and Bob began working in sales in outdoor advertising. That job eventually took the family to Delaware, then Indiana and back to Delaware where they stayed. After advertising sales, Bob started Modern Home Improvements, a contracting company, which later became Newark Gutter and Siding. Bob, Nancy and son Earl were proud to serve New Castle County residents for many years.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He enjoyed tending his huge garden and supplying his grandsons with vegetables for “Chapel Hill Produce”.
Bob enjoyed spending time at Delaware Park and Dover Downs. He was also a member of the VFW and Fraternal Order of Moose.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by wife Nancy and brother Don. He is survived by daughter Deborah (Mike), sons Robert Jr. “Dan” (Kathy) and Earl (Becky) Wesselman, grandsons Christopher and Matthew Guyer, Joseph, Eric, Robbie and David Wesselman, great grandson Joshua Newman, sister Sue Morgan, sister-in-law Pat Wesselman, brothers-in-law Scott and Bruce Grey, many nieces and nephews and dear friend Owen Mullen.
Bob’s family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and Griswold Home Care, especially to Keneasha for her compassion and support during his last few months at home.
