Robert “Bob” William Barrett, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys.
Born in Frederick, MD, Bob was the beloved son of Elizabeth “Betty” Gosner Barrett and the late Joseph F. Barrett. He was a skilled electrician by trade, a true handyman at heart, and a man who found great fulfillment in working with his hands—whether it was tinkering with cars, designing intricate woodwork, or fixing anything that needed a little extra care.
Bob’s greatest love was his family. He shared a wonderful life with his wife, Yen Nguyen, and took immense pride in his daughters: Jennifer Evans (Matt) and their children Parker and Finn; Rebecca “Becki” Barrett (Eric Nowicki); and Nga Nguyen. He was a cherished brother to Joseph Barrett (Donna), Kathy Brophy, the late Martin “Marty” Barrett (Jeanne Smith), and Patty Barrett.
A man of the outdoors, Bob found solace and joy on the water, whether fishing, boating, or simply appreciating nature’s beauty. He was an avid hockey fan, a racing enthusiast, and always had a project in the works—never shying away from a challenge when it came to fixing, building, or creating something new. Having a passion for music, Bob always enjoyed his favorite tunes while working on a project or relaxing by the water. He was known as “BBQ Bob,” always firing up the grill and bringing family and friends together over good food, laughter, and stories. Bob also had a deep love for dogs and was rarely seen without his loyal four-legged companion.
Bob’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His skillful hands, kind spirit, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Services will be held at Chandler Funeral Home 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 on March 17, 2025, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. A celebration of life will take place at 12:30 PM at the DuPont Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by spending time outdoors, sharing a laugh with those you love, or donating to the Brandywine Valley SPCA in his name.
Condolences
