Reva J. Brewster

Reva, age 83, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at home, on July 7, 2024, under the loving care of her husband of 53 years, Sergeant B. (Bart) Brewster, surrounded by family.

Loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, favorite aunt to several and friend… Reva (also lovingly known as RJ) was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia, on November 30, 1940, to the late Ann Louise and Ira Corbett Wilhelm.

Her family soon moved to the North Wilmington area, where Reva went on to attend Alfred I DuPont school.

Bart was introduced to Reva through a friend when she worked at Harvey’s Restaurant in early 1970, they married in July of 1971, and by May of 1972, through Reva’s encouragement and confidence in Bart’s experience, their family business was born. She quickly learned bookkeeping to support Bart’s efforts in sales and service and laying the foundation for a business that has now been successful for over 52 years.

Reva was preceded in death by her son Jay Young and daughter Cathy Young Wilhelm. She will be truly missed by their children, Stacy Shepps (Tim), Cory Brewster (Anna) and grandchildren Katrina Wilhelm, Jessica Cracco, Zach Shepps, Caleb & Audrey Brewster, as well as great-granddaughters Calli & Logan Cracco.

She is also survived by her always protective big brother, Jim (Jimmy) Wilhelm (Martha), cousin Edna Loveland, who was like a sister, sister Debi Kingston, and brother Darrell Ashenhart.

Reva was a kind spirit who embodied integrity. You need only spend time with her or listen when she spoke to know that she believed and stood for honesty, respect and generosity to others. She didn’t say much but when she did, you learned to listen because in her words you heard wisdom and good will.

Her renowned macaroni and cheese. The many years of league bowling, but only for the fun and socialization of it, never for the goal of high average. Her generosity of helping others and never expecting anything in return, whether it be giving of gifts or watching whoever needed to be babysat at the time, or having what seemed to be a revolving door in their home, for whoever needed a place to stay. Her gift of humility and teaching us by example that we are never better than anyone else. And when we got that “look”, you just knew you should know better. These are a mere few she will be remembered and adored for. Our hearts are a brighter place having had her in our lives and the world a little dimmer having lost her.

A Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday, July 11, 2024 with an Funeral Service beginning at 11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, 19803.  Interment will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park, Wilmington, DE.

Reva was a loving and caring person who never turned you down when asked to do a favor. She was great with my children and gave love but always demanded respect. She helped my brother develop and grow his business and was always supportive of his ventures. She was a trooper and fought to the end. Rest in heaven little lady. Everyone is waiting for you.
