Regina Augustine Douglas, age 93, of Wilmington, DE passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 surrounded by her three beloved children. Born in Alden Station, PA, a coal mining town, Regina graduated from Newport Township High School, class of 1949 and shortly thereafter from the Wilkes-Barre Business College, in Wilkes-Barre, PA. She made the brave move to Washington, DC where she got a job at the US Navy Department Bureau of Ordinances. While there, she met and married her World War II hero, Richard (Dick) Douglas. They moved to Wilmington, DE, with their young family allowing Dick to pursue a Public Relations career at Hercules, Inc. She set up a welcoming and laughter filled home and lived happily thereafter. They were married for 57 wonderful years.
Regina loved being a wife and a mother. She was known for her legendary kindness, her delicious dinners and her homemade strawberry jam and secret spicy mustard recipe, which she generously supplied.
She traveled with Dick and their family and made many beautiful vacation memories both abroad and throughout the United States charming everyone along the way and especially enjoyed her time in North Bethany Beach, DE and annually at Lake Winnipesaukee, NH.
She was a former Brownie Leader for her 2 girls, happily dragging her son along to each meeting. She loved playing Bridge and Pinocle and was always so thrilled when she won the $1.50 prize money.
Regina is survived by her three children, Ann Douglas, Nancy Douglas Drainer (Bruce) and Bruce Douglas, all of Wilmington, DE.
She also leaves behind her loving “baby” sister, Marie (Maurice) Cardone of Nanticoke, PA, her “baby” brother, Norman Augustine of North Port, FL, and her Sister-In-Law, Mary O. Clegg, of Webster, NY. She has many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews and friends worldwide.
Regina was preceded in death by her parents Anthony and Stefanie Augustine and her adored husband, Dick Douglas (2012), her sister-in-law Carol Augustine, nephew, Paul Augustine, and niece, Jacqueline Diefendorf.
