Rebecca Lynn Knight Orr

Rebecca Lynn Knight Orr’s 77-year life journey ended on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Accent Care Hospice in Wilmington, Delaware.

Rebecca is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Curtis Jack Orr, Jr.  Rebecca was devoted to her husband and to creating a loving family.  Their journey brought them to Illinois, Michigan, eventually back to Pennsylvania, and finally Delaware.  Rebecca assisted her husband’s ministry at Baptist Church of the Evangel (Narberth, PA) and Second Baptist Church (presently Silverside Church in Wilmington, DE) for 12 years until 1986.  Rebecca then pursued a career in real estate until her retirement in 1999 when she became a day-time care provider for her beloved grandchildren.  Rebecca enjoyed spending her summers, weekends, and holidays at Bethany Beach, Delaware with her family and often expressed her love of the ocean.  Any friends or family traveling to the beach were often asked to “say hi to the ocean” for her.

Rebecca was born in 1946 to William and Joyce Knaub Knight of Mt. Wolf, Pennsylvania and later step-daughter to Robert Coldren. Rebecca was predeceased by her younger sister, Deborah and her husband, Donald Cannon.  She is survived by her younger sister, Elaine and her husband, Joel Ahrens.  Rebecca graduated from Northeastern High School (Manchester, PA) in 1964 and married the same year.

Rebecca was the mother of Christopher Jon Orr, husband of Carolyn June Orr née Snelling and Caitlyn Elizabeth Orr Martin, partner of Andrew Larkin.  She was the paternal grandmother of Samantha June Orr, fiancée to Conner Gabe, and Alexander Christopher Orr.  Rebecca was the maternal grandmother to Anneliese Janene Martin.  Rebecca’s grandchildren lovingly referred to her as their “Mudder”, a childhood translation of “Other Mother”.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Orr will be held at Silverside Church, 2800 Silverside Road. Wilmington, DE, on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers the family recommends that memorial donations be given in the name of Rebecca Orr to Delaware Center for the Inland Bays, 39375 Inlet Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971 or inlandbays.org.

We have many fond memories of our early days at Messiah College. Jack and I were on the faculty in the late 1960s, early 1970s. My husband and I were part of a 3 couples friend group...with Jack and Becky and another couple. Many happy hours and fond memories. God's comfort and peace to Jack and the entire family. "… You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord Who abide in His shadow for life Say to the Lord, "My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!" … And He will raise you up on eagles' wings Bear you on the breath of dawn Make you to shine like the sun And hold you in the palm of His hand"

Dear Jack Heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family on this tragic loss. My memories of Rebecca were from the early days when my family often visited the Knight family in Mt. Wolf. Becky was a beautiful girl both inside and out. I cherish the memories that I had with both of you. She was the epitome of grace and class and I know your heart is broken. Unbelievably sad.

It’s been a long time since you, Jack and Becky were at Silverside. Those were the days when you increased our membership and Becky always had a welcoming smile. Sunday school for our kids was fun. Time does fly, but you have fond memories to look back upon with peace and joy.
