It is with great sadness that the Mullen family announces the death of Philip F. Mullen, III. He passed away peacefully at the age of 65 on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, surrounded by his family and friends
Phil was born in 1956 in Darby, PA. His family moved to Wilmington, Delaware when he was young, where he attended and graduated from Concord High School in 1974. It was at Concord High School where he met the love of his life, Lenora Maile.
After he graduated, he joined the US Army in 1974, and served his country proudly for 17 years. He and Lenora married in 1976 and they led the military life being deployed for 10 years in Germany, and the other years in Washington State, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
Phil loved to go out to dinner. And he loved to travel. But he mostly loved vacationing at the Jersey Shore where he could walk the boardwalk and eat pizza and ice-cream. He especially enjoyed people-watching on the boardwalk where he was always fascinated with the interesting tattoos on passersby.
His two passions were Lenora… and golf. Phil never turned down a tee time. In the summer you could always find Phil on a golf course on the weekends and usually a few days during the week. Phil was very good and loved to teach others. He was very serious about golf and teaching others taught him patience.
Phil loved fiercely and deeply, and we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace. Anyone that truly knew him, knew he had such a big heart, he’d give you anything even if it wasn’t his to give.
Phil is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Lenora Maile Mullen; his son Phil Mullen, of Wilmington, DE; his sisters Catherine Kelly and Linda Shannon and Linda’s husband Bernie of Woodbury, NJ; his sister-in-law Lisa Maile Salamone, his brother-in-law Joseph Maile and wife Kathy of Tennessee, his father-in-law Vince Maile and Mother-in-law Lorraine Pascucci and husband Sonny.
The family will receive friends at Chandler Funeral Home & Crematory, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington on January 5 from 10-11 a.m. with the Memorial Ceremony to follow.
His family will hold a private burial at the conclusion of the ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Bayada Hospice of Delaware at www.bayada.com
