Peter “Pete” Zdinak

Peter Zdinak, age 95, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 3, 2022 in his Wilmington, Delaware home.

Pete is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Rosalea. Pete also leaves behind son Paul and wife Deborah of Belleville, Wisconsin, son Michael of Wilmington, Delaware, daughter Mary Robinson and husband Dale of Chesterfield, Missouri and their children Theresa, Emily, and Michael, and son Peter and wife Maureen of Tewksbury, Massachusetts and their son Chris. He also leaves behind many nephews and nieces who will miss his advice and unconditional love.

Pete was a Navy veteran of WWII and a graduate of Duquesne University. He met Rosalea Bialkowski in Weirton, West Virginia where they were married and began raising their family. Pete worked as a financial executive for much of his business career. His job moved him and his family often, living in North Reading, Massachusetts and Stilwell, Kansas before settling in Wilmington. Pete had a veracious appetite for learning in diverse subjects such as philosophy, theology, science, and art and instilled this love of learning in his children and grandchildren. Pete most loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren; meals with the entire family being the highlights of the day.

Pete’s passing was preceded by his parents Michael Zdinak and Theresa Rohal Zdinak, who immigrated to the United States from Slovakia. Pete was the last surviving of their eleven children: John, Mary, Mike, Mary Gogul, Alex, Katie Mehalik, Bill, Theresa Sabol, Andy, and Paul.

Dearest Aunt Rosalea and Zdinak Cousins, I shall forever be grateful to have had the opportunity to speak with Uncle Pete sime months back so that I could gain some additional information about my grandmother, Mary Zdinak Gogul. He answered all my questions and provided so much more. That conversation was so very enriching. I extend my heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathy as you grieve this tremendous loss. May God give you comfort and strength. Vichnaja Pamjat! Love and prayers always, Staś

How fortunate I have been, that Uncle Pete has been my Godfather for 74 years. He was always around to listen, say kind words, laugh and was extremely interested in what was next in my life and learning. Uncle Pete has left a wonderful legacy of faith, love, and family. He was an example for all of us, especially as his other brothers and sisters kept moving on to heaven. I imagine that they were really glad to greet him on Saturday! Uncle Pete's life was full of so many various adventures, I can only imagine how many lives he touched along the way. May God's Blessings continue to surround you Aunt Rosalea and all of your children during this time. I am sure Uncle Pete is smiling down on you with that impish grin of his! Love, Mickey

Dad, you told us a long time ago to honor you while you were alive and not after you were gone... I hope you don't mind that we did both! Love and miss you, your oldest son, Paul
