Patricia Weldon of Hockessin, DE, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2022 at the age of 86.
Pat grew up in Mount Carmel, PA with her parents, Edna and Joseph York, and her brother, Bob.
She met the love of her life, Bill Weldon, while in high school. After graduation, she went on to study Biology and English at University of Pennsylvania for two years before transferring to Bucknell University from where she graduated 1957.
Immediately after graduation, she and Bill were married and Pat started teaching soon afterwards. She and Bill lived in Pennsylvania, California and New York and had their two children before settling in Delaware to be close to A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children to get the excellent care they needed for their daughter with cerebral palsy.
It was shortly after their move to Delaware that Pat started her 40 year career at CACC Montessori in Hockessin. “Miss Pat” was a beloved kindergarten teacher to hundreds of children, including her own granddaughters. Being a teacher and caregiver, to her daughter, elderly mother, and husband when he fell ill, was her calling in life. Pat was an avid reader and an animal lover but when her granddaughters were born they became her true joy. She shared a very special bond with them.
Pat was preceded in death by Bill, in 2011, her granddogs Molly and Bear and her grandcat Cole.
She will be dearly missed by her treasured daughter Beth, devoted son Will and daughter-in-law Jenni, and cherished granddaughters Alie & Meggie as well as her granddogs Owen and Bridget. She is also survived by her brother Bob, his wife Nancy and their children.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 10-11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will be private at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s name may be made to the Mary Campbell Center by going to marycampbellcenter.org or mailing them to 4641 Weldin Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803.
