Patricia Walters died peacefully on August 15, 2017 with her family by her side.
Born on March 15, 1932, in Baltimore, Maryland, Pat was the only child of the late Joseph Kennedy Walters and Mildred Fillmore Walters. After graduating from The Tatnall School and attending the University of Delaware, Pat earned a B.S. degree in accounting from San Diego State University in 1977. Ultimately responsible for the accounting of its endowment funds, Pat retired from the University of Delaware in 1998 after 20 years of service.
Pat lived most recently in an historic stone farmhouse in Landenberg built in 1821 and in Kennett Square at the Kendal at Longwood retirement community.
In addition to her parents, Pat was predeceased by her first son John W. Fairchild. She is survived by her beloved long-time companion and friend Martin G. H. Wells, her sons Andrew D. Fairchild of Wilmington, Thomas H. Fairchild of Newark, and William F. Fairchild and his wife Paula of Renton, Washington. Along with Martin’s children and grandchildren, Pat is also survived by her grandchildren David, Sarah, John, and Samuel.
Pat enjoyed an active life at Kendal and served as treasurer of the Kendal Resident’s Association for two years. A memorial service and celebration of Pat’s life will be held on Saturday, September 16 at 2:00 at Kendal at 1109 East Baltimore Pike, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania 19348. Pat’s family gratefully acknowledges the compassionate care provided by everyone at Kendal during her final illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Pat’s memory to Heifer International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202.
