Norman E. Normandeau

We regret to announce the passing of our Step-Father and Uncle, Norman E. Normandeau.

Norm died peacefully at the age of 98 on October 19, 2022 at Forwood Manor. He was born in Chicopee, MA in 1924. He was a proud graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and was a Merchant Marine Veteran of WWII. During the war, he served as an engineer on many convoy ships in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Norm was the proprietor of Normandeau’s Market and the Plumtree Food Shop, as well as the Sunset Restaurant in Wilbraham, MA with his brother, Edward. Norm was also the owner and chef of The Captain’s Table in Chatham, MA and the Wellfleet Package Store, also in Chatham, for many years until retiring to Homosassa, FL and later to Tappahannock, VA. He and his wife Jane McIntosh Clune, moved to Wilmington, DE in 2010, to be closer to family.

He was an avid car-racing fan, especially of Formula One races. Norm always had fast cars and frisky pets; he especially loved Mercedes, poodles and cats.

Norm was predeceased by his brother Edward D. Normandeau, his beloved first wife, Dorothy and his beloved second wife, Jane. He survived by his step-children, Christine (David) Warheit, Wilmington, DE; Robin (Charlie) Haaf, Pompey, NY; James (Terri) Clune, Yorkville, IL; his niece Jan (Bob) Francis, Ludlow, VT and their families, including seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Norm was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Wilmington. There will be a celebration of his life on Wednesday October 26, 2022 at Forwood Manor. Norm will be interred in Essex Cemetery, Tappahannock, VA.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in his memory may be made payable to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Attn: Advancement Office, 101 Academy Drive, Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.

Funeral Services

There will be a celebration of his life on Wednesday October 26, 2022 at Forwood Manor.
