Norman Charles Basher

Norman Charles Basher, born in Hockessin, DE in 1934, passed peacefully at home after a short illness.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years Shirley, his son and daughter, his four grandchildren, and his eight great-grandchildren

Norman spent his life doing things, many things. He was a machinist, welder, fireman, carpenter, and much, much more. After retiring from Speakman company, he started a welding business with his son. After retiring from the business he bought a tractor trailer combo, and volunteered both it and his time driving over a million miles for the Appalachia service project. He then retired to spend his winters surf fishing, gathering with friends, and drinking wine in Florida, and spend his summers in DE with family, friends, tinkering in his shop, gardening and making more of the aforementioned wine.

Funeral Services

Norman was actively involved with both the Hockessin UMC, and Hockessin Volunteer Fire Company of which he was the longest serving active member. There will be a celebration of life Thursday 1:00pm at Hockessin UMC followed by a gathering at Hockessin fire hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make a donation to your favorite charity.

Condolences

    Willard Crichton writes,
Dear Shirley and Basher family, Please accept my sincere condolences for Norm’s passing. For the brief time I knew him, he was the kindest and most generous person I’d ever known, and I know that others share that feeling as well. He was a mainstay of Hockessin and a good friend, and he will be sorely missed by all. Willard Crichton
