Nancy Lee Miller

Nancy Lee Miller “Nonnie” of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully at her home on December 30, 2022. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law Duane and Anne, Greenville, DE, her grandson Jason, New York, NY, her granddaughter Haley, Germantown, MD, and her grandson Scottie, New York, NY. She is predeceased by her husband Duane, her sisters Vera Kearns and Geraldine Leatherman, and her brother Neal Longley.

Nancy, 93, was born to Edwin Leroy and Ora Anna Wright Longley of Baltimore, MD in 1929. Upon graduating from high school, she worked as an administrative assistant for various companies before marrying Duane King Miller in 1954. As a supportive spouse she traveled the world on business with her husband, attending conventions and social gatherings. Although she experienced many different cultures and personalities on these trips, she would tell you her greatest thrill was meeting Princess Diana in 1990.

Nancy was a great fan of the arts and frequented Broadway, art museums and the opera. She was a talented artist, winning awards for her oil paintings, but also enjoyed watercolors, sculpture, stained glass and furniture painting, all of which she continued into her 90’s.

Nancy loved to bake. Her famous ribbon cake is a staple at Thanksgiving! She also enjoyed grabbing a Dewar’s at her favorite restaurant, hanging out at Bethany Beach, playing bridge, reading, and also tennis and golf in her younger years. She was quite impressive when at age 87 she learned to use an iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, all three of which she could never be without.

Nancy was known for her big smile and infectious laugh. She was the matriarch of her family, always putting the needs and concerns of others ahead of her own. She supported various charities including The Shriners Hospitals for Children, Wounded Warriors, The Salvation Army and Tunnel for Towers. Her family was everything to her and she will be greatly missed. She is now reunited with her husband, the love of her life, and will forever be remembered as a “great big beautiful doll.”

The family will hold a private burial service on Monday, January 9. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s honor to The Shriners Hospitals for Children (2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 donate.lovetotherescue.org).
