On January 12, Nancy Langmaid Lowe Diver passed away peacefully after a short illness at the age of 86. Her indomitable spirit could no longer sustain her body. Nancy was the beloved wife of the late Arthur G. Diver, with whom she enjoyed 57 years of marriage. She was the dear and only daughter of the late Ann and Richard “Dick” Lowe. Cherished mother of Arthur “Chip” Diver, Jr., Rich (Samantha) Diver, Debbie (Scott) Kephart, and Ann Diver (Jeff) Diehl, Nancy was the revered grandmother to George, Chris and Trevor Diver, Jack and Matthew Kephart, Ethan and Michael Diehl. She also lovingly accepted step-grandchildren into her family: Lucas and Shelby Diehl, then William and Jamie Spruance.
Nancy was a fervent believer in education and in generously giving to her community. Following her graduation from Vassar College, she taught elementary school until she fully embraced the role of caring and nurturing her family, which grew quickly with four children in three-and-a-half years. Nancy worked hard actively supporting and then joined the Board of Trustees of the Stoneleigh-Burnham School where she was an alumnus; she was a life-long contributor to Vassar as well. She held leadership roles with the Junior League of Wilmington, the Junior Board of ChristianaCare and the Delaware Antique Show. Nancy had continuous roles with Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she was a Deacon until 2020 when her health forced her to relinquish this role. Even “retirement” did not slow her down, as she was elected to the Stonegates Community Board as Social Chairman where her efforts to embrace all residents was greatly appreciated.
Travel and culture were priorities for Nancy. She enjoyed exploring the world, museums, the theater, music and food. In her youth, she had a passion for competitive horse showing and enjoyed tennis as both sport and a social outlet. Over time, tennis gave way to bridge, which satisfied both the social and competitive nature of her vibrant personality.
The motto on the Lowe Family Coat of Arms reads, “Spero Meliora”, “I hope for better things” and Nancy took this to heart with her optimistic focus on the positive and what she could do, not what she could not. This remarkable, beautiful woman, wife, mother, friend and neighbor was gracious and generous to the end. She will be missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial gift be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, DE (www.wpc.org) or ChristianaCare (https://giving.christinacare.org). A celebration of life will be held this Spring in Wilmington, DE.
