Michael John Gorman, 73, of Chadds Ford, PA, was called to the Lord on June 16th, 2024.
Michael was the eldest of four children born to Monroe and Mary Gorman. He grew up on a farm outside of Chicago in Monee, IL, that has been in his Irish family for over 100 years. He had much fun on the farm with his siblings, Ann, Kevin, and Ellen. He attended Crete-Monee High School before studying Political Science at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.
Michael then began a five-decade career in banking, starting at Harris Bank in Naperville, IL, and eventually working in their downtown location until 1997. He worked for Fifth Third in Chicago and Cleveland until an opportunity came to run a smaller community bank in Brecksville, Ohio, which Michael loved since he thrived on connection with small business owners. Michael retired from the bank in 2016.
Michael met the love of his life, Paula DiSabatino, in 1995. Excited to start their new lives together, they married on October 12th, 1997, at Assumption Church in downtown Chicago.
Michael was preceded in death by his son Patrick Gorman, his stepson Mark McMenamin, and both of his parents (Mary and Monroe). He is survived by his wife, Paula DiSabatino, and daughter, Laura Thomas (Rich); stepson, John McMenamin (Katie); stepson, Matthew McMenamin (Summer); his siblings, Ann Rutledge (Al), Kevin Gorman (Molly), and Ellen Trost (Doug); and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Michael loved being a grandparent to Zach, Tess, Timmy, JJ, and Keeley. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Pop Mike.
Michael made friends everywhere he went. He lived in the Chicago area for over 50 years before moving to Cleveland, Ohio, for 14 years and then to Chadds Ford, PA, for the last 7. He scheduled annual get-togethers with his college friends and always attended the Dano Open golf outing in Naperville, IL.
Michael was an active member of St. Ann Parish and the Chester County Democrats. He was recently elected the Kennett Township Tax Collector, devoting his time and energy to his community.
Always dressed for the occasion, Michael loved attending concerts, the theater, and sports, becoming a Fairweather fan wherever he went. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and yoga. He also loved food, but you never offered him a leftover. He looked forward to dessert every day.
Michael will always be remembered for his genuine and warm personality and for making people feel welcome. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, sibling, uncle, and friend, and we will miss Michael daily. His memory will live on in all those who loved him.
A viewing will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church, 2013 Gilpin Avenue, Wilmington, DE., with a luncheon following at the Columbus Inn. Guests are welcome to wear something green.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Gift of Life Donor would be greatly appreciated, as Michael was a two-time kidney transplant recipient: https://www.donors1.org/give-to-gift-of-life/
