Michael J. Hood, Esquire

Michael passed away unexpectedly at Christiana Hospital on Monday, April 1, 2024 due to several health complications.

Michael was born on December 29, 1956, to Carolyn (Episcopo) and Logan J. Hood. As a young boy, Michael enjoyed playing baseball and from a very young age, he learned to love the game of golf. He spent many summers as a young man caddying at DuPont Country Club and once traveling as a caddy on the pro-tour.

Michael graduated St. Edmond’s Academy and Archmere Academy. He received his BA from Marquette University in 1978, and his Juris Doctorate from The Delaware Law School of Widener College in 1981. Michael was admitted to the Bar in Delaware and Pennsylvania and celebrated 42 years of practicing law this past March. He specialized in Personal Injury and Criminal Law and was passionate about his business and cared deeply for his clients.

Michael was a lifelong member of DuPont Country Club, where he played golf almost daily. He loved the warm weather that we had a few weeks ago and made sure he got out there every evening to get a few holes in. He was also a member of the Brandywine Country Club and Siegel Jewish Community Center, where he worked out every morning.

Michael loved all animals, and he was especially proud of befriending a little stray tuxedo cat who he lovingly called Moochie. He would visit Moochie daily and generously feed her treats. Together they would stroll the driveway as he talked to her. Moochie learned to trust him enough to allow some pets on her head and she knew when Michael was around, she was safe. He will be missed by her, no doubt.

Michael was an avid reader and loved history, especially reading about previous wars and biographies of past presidents. Abraham Lincoln was one of his favorite presidents and he had many books about him. Michael was patriotic and very supportive of our troops.

A visitation for Michael will be held at 10:00am on Friday, April 12, 2024, at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware, 19803. A Catholic funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Interment will be held after the service at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Michael’s memory. Michael’s favorite charities were Faithful Friends and Wounded Warriors, Memorial donations can be made at Faithfulfriends.us/donate and Support.woundedwarriorproject.org respectively.

I always knew that Mike had a kind heart and reading about his thoughtfulness towards a stray cat that he befriended was a touching example. I wish that Mike and I could have one more post work debate/discussion at Deep Blue. I will miss him.

There are so many more things that I should have mentioned in the obituary, but I feel numb inside & writing it was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. It's going to take a lot of time for this pain & shock to go away. I pray you are at peace now. You will forever be in my heart. Rest in peace, Michael. God bless.

I remember Mike as the "big lefty" from DuPont CC and Archmere during our teenage years of junior golf tournaments and high school matches in the 1970s. I played out of Cavaliers CC and Salesianum. I didn't know him well, but knew who he was nonetheless. I'm sorry to hear he passed away and wish his family peace during this difficult period in their lives.
