Maurice D. Petit

Maurice “Moe” Donat Petit was a caring husband, father, grandfather, role model, hero and friend. He passed away peacefully at home on February 22, 2022 at the age of 86 after a courageous battle with chronic lung disease.

Born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island to Audidas and Germaine (Forcier) Petit, he was a graduate of Mount St. Charles Academy and attended classes at Rhode Island School of Design in drafting. He started at a young age working in the family business, Petit’s Market and later worked as a meat department manager for Finast and Shaws supermarkets until his retirement. His skills as a butcher served him well in his later years as he developed a love for wood carving that remained with him to the end. He was an Army veteran and marksman during his tour in Germany, his respect and love for the military influencing the career choices made by his children and grandchildren. His gentle personality and contagious curiosity made him a favorite with children and stray animals alike and he was loved by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Moe is survived by his wife Dolores (Pretto), his son Richard Pier Petit of Los Angeles, CA, his daughter Nancy Petit, MD and her husband Robert Olivieri, MD as well as their three children: Alexander Olivieri, Lauren Olivieri, DO and Andrew Olivieri.

Future family services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local veteran’s association on his behalf.
