John, Carolmarie just emailed me the sad news about your loss of Mary Jo. What a heartbreak at anytime but especially this time of year. My father died the same week in 1963. It just makes for sorrow upon sorrow at this holiday time. A friend of my parents said to me, age 13, when my father died at age 43, 'you can't weep for someone who gave more to life than he took'. It was not comforting at the time, but obviously I remembered that. And now believe it to be true. Mary Jo certainly gave more in life than she took, and I'm just sad for your entire family for the loss of such an amazing person. You all will be in my prayers and my heart.

Mrs. Gorcyca was my first son’s kindergarten teacher. He had a rough time leaving home and being at school all day and Mrs Gorcyca was wonderful with him. She would update me with emails on how he was doing at school. She really cared. She has a place in my heart always.

I’ve known MJ for many years. We actually started working in Kennett around the same time. MaryJo was the kindest person I’ve ever met. She was always willing to share materials (most of which she purchased with her own money), and her creative ideas to keep kids engaged and excited about learning. MJ always had time for everyone. It was easy to have long conversations with her, and she had a way of making whoever she was talking to feel heard, validated, supported and special. Aside from teaching, MaryJo loved her family best and was smitten with her new grand daughter. We will miss you MaryJo.

So sorry for your loss my friend. I can only imagine how you’ve been feeling, but came close this week as I waited for Connie to come out of the operating room Wednesday (why I missed Mary Jo’s services). We knew Connie had a large tumor that needed to be removed from her ovary and the rest of the organs, and thought this might be her last Christmas. We were amazed, and incredibly fortunate that it turned out not to be cancerous. But can tell you that I was very emotional as we were all expecting the worst, including the doctor. I know you and Mary Jo were as close or closer to each other as Connie and me. I hope you can see Mary Jo in your prayers and dreams, to feel her being happy, looking over you, her children and her grandchildren.
