Marlene Edna Seibert, age 87, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully at Cadia Healthcare Pike Creek on October 6, 2024. Marlene was born in 1936 at Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, DE to Caroline M. (Stranahan) and Leonard F. Touhey, but grew up in the small town of Penns Grove, NJ. Marlene graduated from Penns Grove Regional High School, where she excelled in Varsity Basketball and Field Hockey. Marlene also earned a special Citizenship Award her senior year.
After high school, Marlene attended Goldey Beacom College, worked for E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company for several years, and became a homemaker after marrying Charles A. Seibert, Jr. in 1960 and having two children (John Christopher Seibert, in 1961, and Kathleen A. Seibert, in 1964). In the 1970โs, Marlene served as an organizer for the Chesapeake Bay Girl Scout Council. Marlene later went on to volunteer for many years at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, using her administrative training to help assemble and distribute the monthly Messenger newsletter.
Marlene loved spending time in the summers at the Jersey Shore. She remained a devoted sports fan her entire life. She especially loved Notre Dame and Eagles football and Phillies baseball. She also loved animals, and enjoyed many years with her beloved Bichon Frise named Muffy. But her greatest love was the theater. Marlene took several trips to New York each year to see Broadway plays and musicals. Marlene knew how to get the best seats, where to park, where to eat, and she saw over 100 Tony Award winning performers. Marlene inspired a love of theater in many who knew her.
Marlene is survived by her daughter, Kathleen A. Seibert and her son-in-law Ronald P. Hunsicker.
A service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 10:30 am at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. A visitation will be held prior at 9:30 am. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Hwy, Wilmington, DE 19808.
