Marie Anne “Manya” (Delikat) Ciliberti, age 81, passed away Monday, October 22, 2018.
Marie was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and loyal friend to many. She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Delaware, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Delaware. She also earned a Masters of Arts degree in Russian from Georgetown University. Marie was one of the few who could boast that they truly loved their job, working as a broadcaster for the Voice of America (VOA) for over thirty years broadcasting in Russian to millions of people behind the Iron Curtain. She was also a tireless advocate for employees in the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) 1812 union within the VOA. Marie volunteered for the Victims of Communism organization and was a devout member of Our Lady Queen of Poland Church in Silver Spring, Maryland.
She is preceded in death by her parents William and Longina Delikat, brother Joseph Delikat, sister Kathleen “Kasia” Ruggerio, uncle Rev. Joseph Delikat, aunt Helen Delikat Ryan, and aunt Anne Delikat Felczak. She is survived by her sister Irene Grady and husband James, sister Joanne Arena and husband Louis, son Christopher Ciliberti and wife Kathryn, grandson Nicholas Ciliberti, son Steven Ciliberti, son Eric Ciliberti and wife Kathleen, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation from 10:00-11:00 am, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00, will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Saint Hedwig’s Catholic Church, 408 South Harrison Street, Wilmington, DE 19805. Burial will be in Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, Delaware 19805.
