Marguerite Cooke Coleman

Marguerite Cooke Coleman, age 95, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2021.

Marguerite was raised in Scarsdale, NY, the only child of Thomas A. Cooke and Marguerite McGill Cooke.

She was a graduate of Ursuline Academy in New Rochelle, where she made many close and lifelong friends. In 1948, she married James J. Coleman and in 1957, they moved to Wilmington where they raised their five children: Kathleen Stone (Bernie), Tritty Kelly (Bob), Thomas (Vera), James, Jr. (Maureen) and Marguerite Kaiser (Bob).

During the sixty-five years she lived in Wilmington Marguerite was involved in her children’s school activities, the A.I. DuPont Institute, Meals on Wheels and other charitable organizations. She loved to play Bridge and was an active member of several Bridge Clubs. Tennis and golf were some of her favorite activities at the Wilmington Country Club. She and her husband loved to travel and toured extensively in the United States, as well as Europe. She approached growing old with a lot of common sense, good humor and independence.

Marguerite was predeceased by her husband in 1994 and is survived by all of her children, eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to ALS or Delaware Hospice, or a charity of your choice.

A celebration of Marguerite’s life will be held at a later time.

Condolences

    WILLIAM F GRANEY writes,
I valued being with Jim and Marguerite at St M Magdalen parish. They were faithful, skilled, and caring couple. The illness and death of Jim were very difficult. But eventually she found her way to care for others. I recall talking with her at Sacred Heart Village when she volunteered there. Thanks for sharing this notice and I will offer Mass for her. May she rest in peace.

    Beth Tilghman Hetherton writes,
Mrs. Coleman was my kind and thoughtful next door neighbor. She lived next to me for fifty years. I'll always remember her thinking about me and checking on me after my parents died in 1984. Over the years she'd be happy when I told her my health was good. I miss seeing and hearing her on the screened porch. My thoughts and best wishes go out to her family and friends.
