Lynn F. Garvey

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Lynn F. Garvey, age 74, of Wilmington, Delaware on Saturday, March 15, 2025.  She was a cherished sister, aunt, friend and family to everyone.

Born and raised in Wilmington, DE, Lynn was the daughter of the late Rebecca L. Garvey & Martin F. Garvey.

Lynn was a great listener, dog lover and avid reader.  She was independent and persistent.

Lynn was a graduate of St. Helena grade school, Mt. Pleasant High School and received her pharmacy degree at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science in Chester, PA.

She is best known for being the soft spoken, sweet pharmacist in the white jacket at Rite-Aid, Newark, Tigue’s Marsh Rd., Happy Harry’s in Talleyville/Concord Square that eventually became Walgreens.  Retirement came early for Lynn due to many health issues of her own, but she was a fighter to the end.

Lynn is survived by her sister, Carol Torpey & husband, Steve. Nephew, Michael Torpey & wife Aine, their children Eoin, Meadhbh.

A special thank you to AccentCare Hospice, her aides & friends.

I loved Lynn as a dear friend for 25 years. First working together everyday at Happy Harry's and then at Walgreens until she retired. Customers loved her too and would ask for her by name because they knew she cared about them. We remained friends over the years and I will treasure those memories. She was also a very caring friend and would always "check in" on me and see how I was doing even while dealing with her own health problems. She could always brighten my day and make me laugh with her dry humor. We became daily Snapchat friends when she became housebound, and I looked forward to her humorous comments, especially about my two Yorkies. We bonded over our love for dogs, and in fact had picked out the same name for our puppies that we both got one Christmas, Rudy short for Rudolph , but I ended up keeping my Yorkie's name Bruno as he was a 1yr old rescue. It broke my heart when she had to re-home her beloved dog Cole because of her health. I'm sure he misses her too. I know that I will miss her very much. She was funny, kind and a caring person who will be missed by all who knew her. RIP dear Lynn.

Lynn hired me at 16 as one of her pharmacy technicians at Happy Harry’s (now Walgreens) at concord square and I credit her for jump starting my pharmacy career. We worked together many years before I left for pharmacy school and now practice as a pharmacist in Florida. She was a great role model and mentor and taught me so much. She gifted me one of her mortar and pestles before I left for Florida and I still have it to date. May you rest in peace Lynn. Sending my condolences to your family.

I started my career with Lynn at Happy Harry’s Talleyville. She was a great partner and even better pharmacist. She loved her family and her work family. My favorite memory of Lynn involved Christmas. She loved her nephew so much and always had a host of special gifts for him to open and I loved seeing all her gifts for him. I am saddened by her passing.

I am very sad to hear of Lynn's passing. We were close during our teen and young adult years and remember spending much time driving around with her and hanging out being silly girls together. I admired her quest to become a pharmacist and how well she did it. I regret we lost touch when I moved to Virginia but she always sent me cards on my birthday and Christmas. She was always very kind. My deepest condolences to Carol and the Torpey family at this very difficult time.
