Louis Edwin Moser

Louis Edwin Moser passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Saturday, January 14, 2017. He was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1928. He was a long time resident of Wilmington and most recently of Wilmington, Delaware.

Lou was a graduate of P.S. DuPont High School and Brown Prep School. He attended Goldey College until he was drafted. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in Germany.

Lou held many positions in his life. He began his career with the Wilmington Police Department, spent 15 years with the Wilmington News Journal, owned a carpet company, and finished his career with the New Castle County Sheriff’s Office.

Lou’s passion for basketball and officiating led him to the highest levels in the game. He started his officiating career umpiring baseball and officiating basketball and football.

His career in basketball lasted 35 years from youth leagues to the NBA. During his NCAA career, Lou officiated the 1981 NCAA Championship Game, Indiana vs. North Carolina. In addition to the NBA, Lou worked in the ABA, Eastern League, FIBA, and FBPR. IAABO made him an Honorary Life Member in 1992. Lou was selected in 1996 to the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame, 2007 to Delaware Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Inaugural Class of the Delaware Sports Legends Hall of Fame.

Lou’s true passion was his family, especially his grandchildren, who adored him for his selfless love and passion for life. He was a great communicator who loved interacting with everyone. Most of all he will be remembered for his high character and how he treated everyone with the same respect and dignity.

He was predeceased by his parents Ross and Amelia Moser, along with his youngest brother, Thomas. He is survived by his wife Janet Hart Moser and seven children; Michael (Suzy), Stephen (Denise), Robert (Kathleen), Mark (Judy), Louis (Angel), Victoria Moser Jubb (Steven Chagnon) and Laurence (Lisa). He is also survived by his twenty grandchildren, Madison, Taylor (Joe Peterson), Kennedy, Matthew, Elizabeth, Julia, Courtney, Gabriel, Garrett, Chelsea, Devon, Chase, Ridge, Ethan, Joshua (Lisa and their children Penelope and Maverick) Katie, Christopher (Ruth), Kelly, Evan and Lauren. He is also survived by his siblings Robert, Richard and Marilyn Profitt and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services

Visitation will be held from 9am-1pm Saturday, January 21, at Salesianum School, 1801 N. Broom St., Wilm., DE 19802. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm Sunday January 22, at Arsht Hall, 2700 Pennsylvania Ave., Wilm., DE 19806.
