Linda Joy Daley passed from this life on Tuesday March 25, 2025 at the age of 73. She
passed peacefully with her family by her side.
Linda was born in 1951 to Charles F. Daley, Jr. and Joan Romney Westmoreland at the Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
She grew up in Wilmington, DE, where she attended Ursuline Academy. She went on to graduate from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1973.
Linda lived life as an opportunity of adventure. Never satisfied with a traditional path, Linda spent several years making and selling custom jewelry at local trade fairs. Later her independent spirit led her to a career in aviation. She became an aerobatic pilot [sometimes taking her family on some breathtaking flights], an instructor and worked her way up to a commercial airline pilot. In her career she flew for Pan Am, TWA and American Trans Air [ATA] often flying military and overseas flights. Her travel flexibility allowed her to explore the Caribbean where she purchased a home on Water Island, U.S.V.I. in 2002 and retiring there with her pet duck in 2008.
She had a love for the water and sailing. She sailed her 31 ft. Southern Cross on the Sassafras and Chesapeake rivers most of the time playing Jimmy Buffet music and often dancing along to it. She sailed an ocean voyage from Galena, MD to St. John, U.S.V.I. She also took friends and family on the sailboat-some of the family’s best memories.
She also enjoyed gardening and cooking gourmet meals.
Linda is survived by 3 sisters Deb Cheney of Tucson, AZ, Pat Ryan of Media, PA, and Becky Knowles of Milton, DE. and 1 brother Kevin Westmoreland of Harbeson, DE, 4 nieces, 1 nephew, 3 great nieces and 3 great nephews.
Linda will be sadly missed, but her spirit lives on.
Condolences
