Leonard M. Long

Leonard M. Long, age 85, passed away on Sunday, September 30th, 2018 of congestive heart failure.  He was surrounded by his family at his home.

Leonard grew up on South Harrison Street in Wilmington, DE.  He was a 1951 graduate of Brown Vocational High School.  He enlisted in the US Navy shortly after, specializing in communications.  During the Korean War, he earned a United Nations Service Medal as his ship and crew assisted in transporting women and children from North Korea to South Korea as the border closed.  When he returned home, he was employed by Hercules, Inc. where he worked as a technologist for 41 years.  He retired in 1995.

Leonard was a dedicated and loving husband to his wife Joann for 52 years who passed 6 years ago. He was a wonderful father to his son William (Miriam) and daughters Teresa Long and Leona Williams (Joseph) and Pop Pop to grandchildren Erin Williams, Sara Long, Joseph and Kevin Williams.  He leaves behind two sisters Dorothy Grzybowski and Loretta McComas.  He will be missed dearly by all.  Mr. Long was predeceased by his parents John and Magdalena Long, his sisters Margaret Coll, Ceil Kantorowski, Helen Hyland and brothers John, Paul and Raymond.

He touched lives as a parishioner at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church for over twenty-five years. He enjoyed his days on the golf course with his friends most recently at Delcastle CC.

Funeral Services

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Mary’s of the Assumption R.C. Church in Hockessin, DE on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 11 am. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am.
