L. Jean Bishop

Louise Jean Bishop, age 81, of Claymont, DE, formerly of Wilmington, DE, died on April 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.  Ommi, as she was known to her children, grandchildren, and those close to her, graduated from Brandywine High School in 1961, after having never missed a day of school in her 12 years.  She went on to attend Goldey Beacom College to study accounting.  She was a stay-at-home mom with several jobs, before working as a bank teller at Delaware Trust through its many name changes to Wells Fargo, for over 30 years.  She then worked at WSFS until her retirement at age 78.

She spent her early childhood summers in Rehoboth Beach with her paternal Grandmother and step-Grandfather, by whom she was raised.  She loved family gatherings, the beach, golf, sailing the Chesapeake Bay for many years with her husband and friends, her teatime, crossword puzzles, and tending to her many plants.  She was a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and Chester Bethel in later years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Nils Kingsley, her beloved dog Toddy, paternal grandmother, Marguerite D. Pyle, and mother, Marjorie Jean Johnson.

She is survived by her daughters, Alicia Poppiti (Carmine, Jr.) of Marydel, Maryland and Meredith Bishop of Bellefonte, Delaware; her grandchildren, Courtney Knox (Parker), Joseph Stockburger III, Maggie Poppiti, Hailea Stockburger, and Carmine Poppiti III; and her half-siblings, Peggy Steimle (Jay) and Gary Johnson (Carol). Additionally, she is survived by her niece, Lisa Steigler.

Ommi’s family would like to thank the staff at Millcroft Living and Delaware Hospice for their care of her.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 6:00pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, 19803. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 7:00pm.

in loving memory of Jean. We were lucky enough to have them as friends for more than 60 years. When our families were young we enjoyed playing board games, cards, cheraids, bbq,s and sleep overs. Jean alway had a smile on her face. she is now walking with her soul mate and the love of her life. All those who knew both Jean and Nils feel their loss. My thoughts, love and prayers go out to their family at this difficult time.
