Karyn M. Crawford, age 54, of Wilmington, Delaware, formerly of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, died on July 3, 2024, after a lengthy struggle with a severe illness.
She was born in Providence, Rhode Island, to Harry and Ethel Smith. She was a 1988 graduate of Interboro High School in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania. For over 25 years she worked in kitchen design and cabinetry sales, becoming a prolific designer. In 2021, she opened her own small firm, Crawford Kitchens. She forged close relationships with clients, contractors, and vendors all around the Philadelphia suburbs. She took immense pride in her independence and success in starting Crawford Kitchens and having her own showroom.
Karyn was always up for a good adventure! In the last few years, she enjoyed traveling to warmer climates and visiting nice resorts with her dear and loyal friends, Kathleen Sullivan and Kelly Kindregan. They even took a trip to the shore in May. Karyn’s family is extremely grateful for Kathleen and Kelly’s friendship with Karyn.
Just like her father, she had a great love of animals. She was known for her willingness to adopt litters of kittens from the neighborhood and get them rehomed.
She was predeceased by her father Harry Smith. She is survived by her mother, Ethel Smith of Wilmington, DE; her son, Rev. Bryan Kerns, O.S.A. of Andover, MA; her sisters Nancy Lynn of Bear, DE, Diane Smith (Maureen Faulkner) of Smyrna, DE and Carol Shannon of Blue Ridge, GA; her brother Harry Smith (Marta) of Orange Park, FL; and her nephew Alex Lynn (Liz Coen) of Ridley Park, PA; as well as extended family.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Wilmington Elks Lodge #307 located at 1310 Carruthers Lane, Wilmington, DE 19803. A calling hour will be held from 11 am to 12 pm to be immediately followed by a luncheon on premises.
In place of sending flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the feline rescue center that helped re-home Karyn’s beloved cats. Donations can be sent to Pawsitive Hearts Pet Therapy and Rescue at 3815 Grant Street, Reading, PA 19606, or made online at pawsitiveheartspa.org.
