Julia Tresznewsky, aged 98, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of December 1, 2020.
She was born in April of 1922 in the town of Tyriava Voloska (Lemkivshchyna) in western Ukraine to the family of Anastasia and Yosyf Jasinski.
She graduated from high school in the town of Sanok, but further studies were delayed by World War II.
In 1949, she, along with her husband Peter, immigrated to America, where they eventually settled in Wilmington, DE. Prior to Wilmington, they lived in Irvington, NJ, where they welcomed daughter Orysia Natalia to the world, who would go on to complete medical studies and become a cardiologist.
Upon arrival in America, at the first opportunity, she got a job as a seamstress at a textile factory in Newark, NJ. Later, thanks to her talent for modeling clothes and an innate ability to manage a complex business, she became co-owner of the factory.
Mrs. Julia was from the generation that after the war, in a foreign country, preserved the Ukrainian language, Ukrainian culture, and Ukrainian traditions; and passed the love for the native land to her children.
Mrs. Julia was the center of the universe for all who knew and loved her. Always caring, sincere, gentle, and noble in everything, no matter what her tireless hands and motherly heart touched.
Mrs. Julia, an eternal optimist, always calm and balanced, has always been a moral and religious role model for relatives and acquaintances.
She was a long-term member of the Ukrainian League of Women of North America, a soprano chorister of the St. Nicholas church choir, an impeccable hostess, and a good adviser, first of all for her daughter and for all those who needed her kindness and care.
Mrs. Julia’s heart stopped beating the last time in her home, next to her beloved daughter Orysia, who took care of her mother until the last minute, as always, throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter Orysia, nephew Bogdan and family, nieces Luba and Bohdanna and families, and a large family in Canada, America, Poland, and Ukraine.
