Judite U. Reis

Born October 7, 1929, in Marinha Grande, Portugal, delivered unto Heaven on July 3, 2020, in Wilmington, DE.  She was the daughter of Manuel Elisiario and Maria Umbelina, and had 4 brothers. Survived by her loving daughter Judite Reis-Noveck and son-in-law Mark Noveck; preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Joao Felipe Reis Junior.

She was a devoted and loving wife and mother who was gentle and kind to everyone and loved children, flowers and long strolls in botanical gardens.   Early in life, she helped to care for her two younger brothers.  A wonderful home cook who made all meals from scratch, and a skilled seamstress, she approached every task with thoughtful and caring attention to detail.  She took great delight in growing orchids, geraniums, anthurium and many other plants.  She unfailingly supported her husband in all of his endeavors, from opening a restaurant to his pursuit of painting and the fine arts, to immigrating to the U.S. in 1976, and always encouraged her only daughter to study and pursue a college education.  Her strong sense of morality and righteousness was a lifelong inspiration and a guiding light to her daughter, who valued her advice on matters large and small.  While she was soft-spoken, she had deep abiding convictions grounded in faith, truth and morals.

Though she has passed, her memory will live forever in the hearts of the many people she touched.  During her retirement, she was fortunate to travel the world, first with her husband and daughter to Europe, Jamaica, Cancun and Bahamas, and also later with her husband, daughter and son-in-law, on a trip to the Great Smoky Mountains and a tour of Italy.

She will be missed.  Saudades eternas, querida Mae.

Although I only knew Judite in the later years of her life, her warmth and kindness were immediately apparent whenever we met. I will always remember how kind she was to my grandmother when they lived in the same retirement community. May her memory be a blessing.

Judite was a woman full of grace, dignity and love.  She was always, always so kind to everyone in our family. I will forever be grateful for the frienship she shared with my mom and will always remember Judite's enthusiasm and excitement when she let me experience the beauty of her indoor garden and the personal treasures collected over a lifetime full of love and devotion to her family.  Judy, you had such a special bond with your mom.  I loved watching the two of you walk arm in arm, head to head as you discussed events big and small.  The bond that you shared and that special love will be with you forever.  I am sending all our love to you and Mark.

Dear D. Judite was the Mother of my long time friend of the heart Judy.. She was always so kind to me.. Every time Judy traveled, I used to call her to know if she was alright, even when she moved to US. Was something, particular, betwen us. Her voice was always worm and kind and I felt always her kindness and love in her voice. Miss all the times I went to visit Judy in Lisboa and D. Judite made me, kindly a coffee. I will miss her so much! She was a mother figure to me since my mother died, one and a half year ago. As a friend of mine and Judy said "we have no mother anymore".. Her memory will always remain in my heart and she'll always live in the memories that I have. Ela será sempre a minha muito querida D. Judite... Viverá para sempre, como o Sr. João e a minha mãe. Quem sabe não estão todos juntos neste momento a zelar pela minha querida amiga Judite e por mim? Até um dia, querida D. Judite!
