Josephine “Jo” (Hanks) Booth
Age 94, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 25, 2017.
Born in Danville, Illinois, Jo was the daughter of the late Nelle (Jackson) Hanks and Thomas J. Hanks. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas J Hanks, Jr.
She graduated from Danville High School in 1940. During World War II, she worked for the DuPont Company at Indiana Ordinance Works in Newport, Indiana. After the war, she transferred to the Chemical Department of DuPont’s Experimental Station in Wilmington. She then worked as an administrative assistant at Delaware Adolescent Program (DAPI) for 30 years and retired in 1992.
Jo was a long-time volunteer at St. Francis Hospital. She was a skilled bridge player and enjoyed spending time with friends. She was especially dedicated to her family.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, George J. Booth. She is survived by her son, G. Jefferson Booth and his wife Kate Andersen; her grandchildren Amber Volpe, Ryan Booth and Taylor (Scott) Delaplane; and her great granddaughter Gianna Maria Volpe. Also surviving are many loved nieces and nephews.
