Josephine Esposito

Josephine “Jo” Esposito (née Carbonelli), aged 93, passed away on August 17, 2024, in Wilmington, DE. She was born in Corona, NY the child of immigrants and spent the majority of her life in NYC. Jo was a cherished member of her community and a devoted family figure.

Jo began her career as a secretary at Con Edison, balancing her professional duties with raising a young family at home. She later served as an Administrative Secretary at St. John’s School of Pharmacy, a role she held for many years until her retirement, demonstrating her dedication and work ethic.

Jo was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known for her deep faith and love of family gatherings and the joy she found in the company of her loved ones. Her life was marked by the deep relationships she nurtured and the warm home she created for her family. As an avid reader she instilled in her children a vibrant respect of learning and exploring as well as a great love of animals. Jo was inseparable from her dog Melede and often enjoyed expressing a unique sense of humor with an infectious laugh that was familiar to many.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Dr. Michael Esposito, and his wife Kathleen, Dr. Linda Esposito Pape, and her husband William and Diana Esposito, Esq. and her husband Michael Kenyon; Grandchildren, Dr. Elise Esposito McCollum, and her husband CJ, Gregory Pape, and his wife Danielle and Christopher Pape; and great-grandchildren, Jacobi and Margaux McCollum; and cousins Diane and Jeffery Katz, and Jennifer Katz McMannus.

Jo was preceded in death by her infant son Peter, her beloved husband Tony, and her parents, Olindo and Enrica Carbonelli (née Recchi) and her cousins Tina and Donald Domite.

A special thank you to all who cared for Jo, especially Jim and Gerry Doherty while Jo was in NYC and Georgie, Kendra and Carole in Delaware.

Funeral Services

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph on the Brandywine at 1pm, on August 21, 2024. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Home, Wilmington, DE. Jo’s life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
