Joanne Burton

Joanne O’Keefe Burton, 86, of Wilmington, Delaware and formerly of Earleville, MD and Drexel Hill, PA, died at her residence on December 12, 2017.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1931 she was the daughter to the late James Francis and Hazel O’Keefe.

Joanne earned a Bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon University).

She is predeceased by her husband, William Wilson Burton, her brother, Dr. James F. O’Keefe Jr. MD, and her sister, Sister Mary Aloysia O’Keefe, Sisters of Charity Seton Hill.  Survivors include her children William (Gail) of Charlotte, NC, Grace (Ronald) Burton Seyb of Ballston Spa, NY, James (Susan) Burton of Wilmington, DE, and Alice (Donald) Hoffman of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Emily Burton Kasprak, Caroline Burton Griffith, Elizabeth Burton, Sarah Burton, James Hoffman, Jeffrey Hoffman, Patrick Hoffman and William Hoffman as well as several nieces and nephews.

The most important thing in Joanne’s life was her family. She dearly missed her beloved husband, Bill, and has now joined him in eternity.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday December 18, 2017 at 11:00AM at St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church, 7 Sharpley Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803. Friends may call starting at 10:00AM at the church. Friends from Maryland are invited to the interment at 1:00PM at Galena Cemetery, Galena, MD.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association www.lung.org or to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, www.macular.org.

Funeral Services
