JoAnn Sicura Winchester

JoAnn Sicura Winchester, 77, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on June 20, 2024.

JoAnn was born to Carol and Joseph Sicura in Philadelphia, PA.

JoAnn’s greatest joy in life was her family and friends. She married Joseph, her childhood sweetheart, on June 28, 1969, and together they raised two daughters, Wendy and Robin.

JoAnn’s main focus in life was being the best mother she could be. During her daughters’ grade school years, she was involved in the parish at St. Joseph’s in Aston, PA, and also taught CCD there for many years. Her love for teaching led her to pursue a bachelor’s degree from Neuman University where she graduated magna cum laude in 1989. She then taught first grade at St. Mary Magdalen School in Media, PA, for over a decade. After retiring from full-time teaching, JoAnn continued teaching as a substitute teacher and was always willing to help a teacher who needed her. However, her main devotion after retiring was her grandchildren (Robert, Jason & Gabriel) as she cherished this role and put them above all. She loved spending time with family and friends and was always ready to plan a party, family vacation, or enjoy time at the shore in Ocean City, NJ. JoAnn was generous, always ready to listen and could be counted on when anyone was in need – she made this world a better place.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Sicura, and survived by her mother Carol Sicura. JoAnn’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her husband, Joseph, and their children; Wendy Bonner and Robin Winchester; sons-in-law, David Bonner and Roger Lauer; grandsons; Robert Bonner, Jason Bonner and Gabriel Lauer; sister and brother-in-law, Carmel and Joe Pasquini, brother-in-law, John Winchester; and goddaughter, Nicole Beato. There are many more cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will dearly miss her.

A visitation will be held on July 1, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church, 7 Sharpley Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome to attend the interment following at Cathedral Cemetery in Wilmington, DE.

So sad to hear about Mrs. Winchester. She was my 1st grade teacher at SMM and I loved having her. We saw each other at mass occasionally and it was always so nice. Praying for the whole family.
