Joan Catherine Del Guidice (Guaglianone), age 79, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, formerly of Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. She was lovingly surrounded by her family and her beloved cat, Louie.
Joanie, also known as Meem and Aunt Joan by many, was born in 1945, in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of John and Esther Guaglianone. Joan graduated from Springfield High School in 1963, where she met and then married her husband Bernard V. Del Guidice. She started her professional career working for PSFS Bank and eventually retired from a managerial role at The Franklin Mint.
Her most cherished role was raising her family as a dedicated wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was most definitely known for gathering her family and friends around the dinner table. No matter the reason, she always made everyone feel so very special. Her attention to detail whether it was planning a party, cooking for a crowd, decorating her home, or in her personal appearance, she was always impeccable. Joan mingled her Catholic faith and family traditions well and always stayed true to her Italian heritage.
She is predeceased by her husband Bernard V. Del Guidice of 58 years. Joan is survived by her son Bernard V. Del Guidice Jr. (Tina) of Hull, MA, her daughter Danielle Sitaras Matruder (Mark) of Wilmington, DE and her sister, Lynne Civitella (Mike) of Georgetown, SC. Her grandchildren, Jessica Gladu (Corey), Theresa Del Guidice, Michael Del Guidice, Andrew Del Guidice, and Monica Del Guidice, and great-grandson, Westley Gladu. Her nieces and nephews, Kristin Doyle (Jack), Nick Civitella, and Phill Civitella (Jess) along with many great-nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. The service will begin at 12:30 pm. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Joan’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
