Jim Williamson

Jim Williamson passed away on Sunday July 12, 2020 at age 68 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.  Jim will be best remembered as the man with the fastest wit!!  Always able to make everyone laugh.  He thoroughly enjoyed his role as a father to Corlan and Colby and was so proud of their achievements but mostly that they have grown into truly good young men.

He was happiest with family and friends golfing, skiing, travelling, chopping wood, playing ball, eating crabs and coaching the kids in soccer and baseball.  He was an excellent cook and loved trying new food, the spicier the better!  He endured many highs and lows as a Washington Redskins and Nationals fan.  Jim completed undergrad and law school at the University of Arkansas so it was not unusual for Jim, Jean and the boys to don Razorback hats and chant the hog call, “Woooo Pig Souie” during a football game.

Jim spent his career as a regulatory attorney at DuPont and retired after 34 years.  Jim and Jean met at DuPont and enjoyed raising their family in Hockessin DE.

We wish to acknowledge and give a heartfelt thanks to Jim’s caregivers over the past few years.  They are talented, kind professionals and provided him friendship and support.

Jim was born in Magnolia, Arkansas and was pre-deceased by his parents, Walter E. Williamson and Sue Lee Williamson (Harris).  Jim is survived by wife Jean, sons Corlan and Colby; brother Ed; sisters, Beth and Susanne; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

    Keith Farmer writes,
So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I did not have a lot of interaction with Jim but, I can say with certainty, he treated everyone he came in contact with with the same level of respect. He listened to what you had to contribute to the situation at hand, asked questions to clarify any points that weren't clear and took the time to explain the issues so that everyone involved understood. He had a great sense of humor that he could use to help lighten up a meeting when necessary. My condolences to the family.

I was very sad to hear of Jim’s passing. I worked for him for about the last three years of his career. He was one of the kindest and certainly one of the most self deprecating people I’ve ever known. He could see the humor in almost any situation and never took himself very seriously. When I returned to Legal Dept. there wasn’t any one to talk sports with. Any time I needed a break and he wasn’t busy we would talk Redskins/Ravens or Nats/Orioles, depending on the season. The world could certainly use more people like him. I enjoyed every minute working for him. My deepest condolences to Jean and their boys.

I am so sorry to learn about Jim’s illness and know you and your boys are deeply saddened by his loss. He was lucky to have you. This is a difficult time as it is, and compounding what you now are going through is no doubt confusing and exhausting. Please know you have my sympathy and prayers. I hope you are able to rest and know that even from your past many are thinking about you. Do NOT respond to this. Very affectionately, Barbara Cooch

I'm writing on behalf of my late dad, Alan Burton, who passed away a year ago. He was a big fan of your dad/husband, and never said the words "Jimmy Williamson" without a smile. If he were still here, he would tell you what a wonderful man he thought Jimmy was, and how much he enjoyed working with him over the years. Thinking of you all.

I was so very sorry to hear about Jim. We were in DuPont Legal together for many years during which we played poker, planned the Legal Dept. picnic, played softball for Legal, handled a dinner gift program until I was transferrer among other things. He was a good man with a quick wit and lots of fun to be around. I also lived in Arkansas for a number of years and went to law school there although not the same school as Jim. I have always understood his passion for the Razorbacks. Wooo pig souie!!

Jean - I am so sorry to just learn of the passing of Jim from his long battle with Parkinson's Disease. I first met Jim when I was hired at DuPont in 1979, in what was the legal group supporting Energy, Materials and Transportation. I thoroughly enjoyed his sense of humor and that southern accent. He was quite the gentleman. Wishing you and your family peace as you heal. Most sincerely, Yvonne Keith
