Jean M. Zimmerman died peacefully on September 10, 2021.
She was born in Leonardtown, Maryland, the daughter of George and Eva McCully. She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Zimmerman in 2012, whom she was married to for 63 years. Jean was the beloved mother of William E. Zimmerman, Jr. (Joan) and Jean Zimmerman, grandmother of Jesse Zimmerman and Eric Zimmerman, great-grandmother of Charlotte, Amelia and Penelope Zimmerman. She is also survived by her sisters Elaine Weber, Sister Rose McCully and her brother, Franklin McCully.
She began her working career in Washington, DC after graduating from Notre Dame High School. She was a realtor in Delaware for many years as well as working for her husband’s CPA firm. She was an excellent cook as well as a master baker of Christmas cookies. Family, friends and neighbors looked forward to a delicious tin of cookies every year. She was also an accomplished seamstress but a true artist with first needlepoint and then petit point. Her gorgeous petit point creations included rocking chair cushions for her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren as well as picture frames, pillows, Christmas ornaments and many more. Her miniature oriental rugs were truly masterpieces.
No story of her life would be complete without including her love of cats. She was a magnet for cats in need of a home. Her beloved cats were Whiskers, Jesse-cat, Jerry, Spooky, Ellie and Kitters. Jean was a very generous, giving and thoughtful person with a strong social conscience which she got from her mother who was in the women’s suffrage movement.
The family would like to thank the staff of Kentmere Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center for their kind and loving care of Jean.
