James “Jim” William Franks, Sr.

James “Jim” William Franks, Sr., age 81, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April, 26, 2022.

Jim graduated from Pennsbury High School in 1959 and later attended management and business classes at a local college. He worked in the steel mills in PA and for the Pennsylvania Railroad before starting his own trucking company named Astro Freightways. He later worked in senior management at several other trucking companies. Jim then started his final company, Maryland Cartage, Inc., in 1989 where he remained president for over thirty years.

Jim was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Newark, DE. He enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake with his family and was a member of the Silverton Yacht club. He also enjoyed spending time at the casino.

Jim is survived by his wife, Nancy (Bova) Franks; sons: Thomas Franks (Catherine) of West Creek, NJ and James Franks, Jr. of the Pocono Mountains, PA; Daughter, Alicia Luciano (Anna) of Newark, DE; grandsons: James Franks of MD, Thomas Franks of West Creek, NJ, and Ty Franks of MD; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 10:00 – 11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org or Faithful Friends Animal Society, 12 Germay Drive, Wilmington, DE 19804 or www.faithfulfriends.us/donate/.

Funeral Services

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 from 10-11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at Chandler Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery in Langhorne, PA.
