James Edward Hunt, Jr., age 82 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
James served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve. He earned his Master’s degree from Widener University in Taxation and was a partner in the accounting firm, O’Kane, Hunt & Company, and then owned Hunt & Company, PA. He was chairman of the Nominating Committee of the Delaware Society of CPA’s on three separate occasions, covering a period of 9 years. He served as President of the State Board of Accountancy from 1969 – 1972 and later, President of the Delaware Society of CPA’s from 1974-1975.
James was a passionate Methodist and was a member of the Board of Trustees as well as Chairman of the Official Board for Silverbrook Methodist Church and served as the church’s treasurer for 4 years. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
James was an impressive athlete, who played basketball, semi-professional baseball, and runner who competed in the annual Caesar Rodney Half Marathon in addition to other full marathons and was a member of the Golden Rams Running Club. Jim was a 30+ year member of the Central YMCA, running and working out 4 days a week. He was an avid golfer and member of the Hercules Country Club and DuPont Country Club, where he earned a rare hole-in-one. Additionally, he was a history buff and prolific reader. Yet, what James loved most was his wife, Olga. The two shared 60 beautiful years of marriage and were each other’s best friends. James and Olga loved travelling and they never missed a Saturday night date.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by his son, James Kevin Hunt, his wife Elizabeth Ann and their children Ryan and Ethan; his daughter, Carla Ann Dimiris, Steven Dimiris and their children Alyssa, Alexa, Nicole and Zachary; as well as his daughter, Cathy Lynn Hunt and her daughter, Alyson, and his sister Linda Hunt. He was preceded in death by his parents Pauline and James E. Hunt Sr., and his brother, William.
