Jacqueline Marie Gellens Watson, age 95, of Wilmington, Delaware, formerly of Monett, Missouri, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2024, at Kentmere Assisted Living in Wilmington, Delaware.
Jacqueline attended Monett High School in Missouri and later attended Wilmington College from which she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1979. During her time at Wilmington College, she was a proud member of the Delta Epsilon Rho Honor Society. During her career years, Jacqueline was the editor of the Bronson Beacon newspaper, the furnishing writer for the Wilmington News Journal, and later worked for the New Castle County Courthouse as a court administrator. Jacqueline was a long-time member of the First Unitarian Church in Wilmington, Delaware where she served in many of their groups. One of her favorite pastimes was cardmaking. She was involved in several cardmaking groups such as the “Stampin’ It Up” club. One of Jacqueline’s proudest accomplishments was the publication of her book, “The Habit,” at the age of 90.
Jacqueline had a passion for traveling both in the United States and internationally. Some of her favorite trips included Cancun, Paris, Italy, London, Amsterdam, Spain, Finland, and Greece.
Jacqueline was predeceased by her spouses, Warren Lauteret, Paul Gellens, and James Watson. Additionally, she was predeceased by her son, Ned Lauteret, her stepsons, Don Gellens and Jerry Gellens, and her sister, Wilma Henbest.
She is survived by her loving family including her stepchildren, M’lyn Butterfield, Randy Gellens, Alan Von Weltin, Robert Watson, Ken Watson, Alex Watson, and Eric Watson. She is also survived by her niece, Vicki Nelson, and nephew, Jen Henbest, along with all her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate Jacqueline’s life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 2:00pm at Chandler Funeral Home, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. Friends and loved ones are invited for a visitation at 1:00pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jacqueline’s honor to the First Unitarian Church, 730 Halstead Rd, Wilmington, DE 19803.
