Harvey A. Salem

Dr. Harvey A. Salem, age 80, of Chadds Ford, PA, passed away on June 15, 2017 at his home.

In 1959, Dr. Salem earned his B.S. from the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1964. He served his internship and residency from 1964 to 1968 at Tri-County Hospital in Springfield, PA.

Dr. Salem was employed by Riverside Hospital in Wilmington from 1968 to 1996 in the following capacities: President of Medical Staff (1976-1977, 1980-1981), Vice President of Medical Staff (1978-1979), Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine (1973-1993, 1995-1996), Director of Intensive and Coronary Care Units (1973-1993), Co-Chairman of the Department of Internists (1994), Member of the Board of Trustees (1989-1995), and Chairman of the Disaster Committee (1994). He also was awarded Courtesy Staff Privileges in Internal Medicine at Metropolitan Hospital, Springfield Division. Dr. Salem was a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was affiliated with St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington (1995-present) and Christiana Hospital (1999-present).

He was employed by Vanburen Medical Associates in Wilmington from 1999 to May 2016.

Dr. Salem was a member of the Delaware State Osteopathic Medical Society and served as Vice President (1978) and President (1979). In addition, he was a member of the American Osteopathic Association and American College of Osteopathic Internists.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Widet Salem and his sister Diane Miskar. Dr. Salem is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sandra; daughter Pamela Warfield (Joshua); stepchildren Linda McConnell (Paul), James Rowe, Jr. (Donna), Suzanne Lizzul (Norman), and Diane Rowe; four grandchildren, Carlee and Luke Warfield and Andrew and Sean McConnell; siblings, Joseph Salem, Jr., Gary Salem and Judy Hamilton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral Services

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:00 am on Wednesday June 21, 2017 at St. Cornelius Roman Catholic Church, 160 Ridge Road, Chadds Ford, PA. Friends and family may visit from 8:45 to 9:45 am at the church. Interment will follow Mass at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery, Greenville, DE.
