Greta Gricol, 66, of Wilmington, Delaware passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2023 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Greta was a lifelong Delawarean. She attended St. Helena’s Elementary School, Padua Academy and graduated from the University of Delaware. She was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.
Greta married the love of her life, Jeffrey, in 1983. They celebrated 40 years of marriage this June.
Greta began her career as an elementary school teacher and taught her 3rd grade students at Holy Rosary with enthusiasm and joy. She brought the same passion to her many roles at PNC Bank until retiring in 2019. Through it all, she most enjoyed raising her two daughters and caring for her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Gigi.
Greta lived an active life. She loved running, biking, walking and working out at the YMCA. She joined the Y for the exercise classes, and as was always the way with Greta, ended up with a crew of dear friends. Her great gift was making connections and forming relationships with people. Some of her most treasured friendships were formed at Crestview Pool where she and her family enjoyed many summers together.
Greta was the consummate hostess; her warm and welcoming nature, her beautiful smile and genuine, infectious laugh will forever remain in the hearts and minds of those who loved her.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband Jeffrey, daughter Kelley Seravalli and her husband Andrew, grandchildren Lia and James, sister Patty Randolph and her husband Danny, sister-in-law Mary Kate McKinley and countless friends and family.
Greta was preceded in death by her daughter Julie, her parents, Robert and Grace McKinley and her brother Bobby McKinley.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 4701 Weldin Road, Wilmington, Delaware. A Mass of Christian Remembrance will be celebrated at 12:00 pm. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Greta’s name may be made to the Julie G. Gricol ‘08 Memorial Scholarship at the University of Delaware.
